About this server

First, a word in French to explain why most of the pages on this site are in English: la plupart des pages sur ce site sont en anglais car je n'ai pas le temps de les écrire en deux langues, et il y a plus de gens qui connaissent l'anglais que le français. Désolé si vous ne parlez pas anglais. The reason is that I don't have time to write the documents I write in two languages so by default I choose English because it is understood by more people than French is.

This document describes some rules that I apply to maintain this site: http://larve.net/. I mostly learnt them by maintaining the W3C Web site.

Documents on this site are valid HTML and CSS.

Why is it so important? Well, simply because using I was using non-standard markup if, how able would be you able to my browse site? Oh, I'm sorry, I was using not valid English here, what I meant was: Well, simply because if I was using non-standard markup, how would you be able to browse my site?

If you find an invalid document, send me an email and I will fix it.

If you access a document on that site, you are assured that the URI will always exist.

Basically, removing documents and hence breaking links is anti-social because people might refer to it. See Tim Berners-Lee's Cool URI's Don't Change to learn more about that.

If you find out that a document that you used to access returns a 404, you are allowed to flame me and I will fix the problem.

I don't use GIFs.

GIFs are patented, so I use PNGs. If your browser doesn't support PNGs, well, I'm sorry and I would advise you to upgrade.

Some people might argue against that. Well, if you want to only do things that everybody can see, use HTML 2.0 with no style sheets, no colors, because some very old browsers won't know HTML 3.2.
