People may wonder why I have bought my own domain. I have written this small note to explain why.
There are basically two reasons. When you finish your studies, change jobs, you do not have access to the same facilities. The two consequences are that your email address will probably change, and worst, if you had a web site, it may be removed, potentially breaking thousands of links on the Internet.
By buying my own domain, I am sure that my email address and my web site will always be the same.
None. I currently host everything at work. However, more and more people do that and having a company hosting your domain is not expensive (something like $30 a month at the time I write this).
Basically, it's not more expensive to have your own domain on the Internet than to have a cell phone.
larve means larva in French. My friends used to call me like that when I was at university because I used to sleep a lot. I never denied it!
Here are the definitions of larve from a glossary of zoology:
So I decided to use that for my domain. Then I had the choice between .com, .org and .net. I didn't really like .com. I'm not an organization, and .net looked cool, so I decided to go for larve.net.
You can send them at hugo@larve.net.
